Project Process: From Design to Installation

Project Overview

What is the process at Wood & Co. from concept to installation?

Our process is structured and transparent, designed to keep every project aligned, predictable, and on schedule. This disciplined approach allows us to deliver exceptional results.

    1. Proposal & Budgeting

    2. Shop Drawings & Physical Sample Production

    3. Revision Cycles & Full Sign-Off

    4. Pre-production Verification

    5. Fabrication & Finishing

    6. Delivery & Installation

    7. Final Adjustments & Close-out

How early should we bring Wood & Co. onto a project?

Ideally during design development. Early involvement ensures proper coordination, prevents redesigns, and eliminates costly surprises. We offer millwork consultancy as a standalone service to support early-phase decision-making.

Lead Times, Scheduling, & Approvals

What are your lead times for shop drawings and fabrication?

Shop drawings begin shortly after deposit. Fabrication begins only after full and final sign-off. Lead time is driven entirely by the approval process—the faster approvals occur, the sooner we can build.
Typical fabrication timelines are:

  • Large kitchens or millwork packages: 4–6 months from final sign-off

  • Smaller pieces: minimum of 2 months weeks from final sign-off

How does the approval process affect production scheduling?

The approval process is the schedule. No production begins until everything is approved. Delays in approvals or revisions extend the project timeline accordingly. A project is added into the production schedule only once the following are completed:

  • Full and final sign-offs

  • Pre-production payment

  • Verification of field measurements

How do you manage submittals and drawing revisions?

All submittals and approvals are tracked in a formal log. Revision cycles include schedule updates to maintain transparency and alignment.  Full and final approvals are issued to all members of the team to ensure everyone is working from the same document.

What if I request multiple design revisions?

Two rounds of revisions are included in every proposal. Additional revisions are billed hourly, and updated schedules are issued with each revision cycle to maintain transparency.

Do you provide updated schedules with every submittal?

Yes—every drawing package includes an updated schedule to maintain full alignment.

What can cause delays in production?

Delays may result from late approvals, unclear direction, post-sign-off changes, incomplete site conditions, or unavailable materials. We work proactively to avoid issues and emphasize collaboration among all project members to maintain momentum.

Design & Drafting

Do you need detailed design drawings, or can you work WITH sketches?

We can work with any level of design input—simple sketches, inspiration photos, concept boards, detailed architect’s drawings, or any combination. Our team routinely translates these materials into fully engineered shop drawings ready for fabrication.

What’s the difference between design drawings and shop drawings?

Design drawings express visual intent. Shop drawings show precisely how each piece will be built—including dimensions, joinery, hardware, materials, and construction details.

What’s included in your shop drawings, and how fast can they be produced?

Our shop drawings are highly detailed. They include plans, elevations, sections, materials, hardware specifications, appliance integration, engineering details, and fully annotated construction notes. Typical production timelines are:

  • Smaller scopes: 1–2 weeks

  • Whole-home packages: 4–12 weeks (often issued in phases to keep reviews moving)

Materials, Finishes, & Craftsmanship

What materials do you use?

We work with fine hardwoods, custom veneers, and specialty materials selected for their stability, beauty, and longevity. Common selections include rift white oak, walnut, and a wide array of premium wood species. We also incorporate natural stone, metals, glass, and textiles into our work. Every piece is designed to feel truly bespoke and beautifully integrated into your home.

Do you offer custom stains and finishes?

Yes. We offer fully custom stains, hand-applied finishes, specialty paints, and refined finishing treatments. We use the highest-quality Italian polyurethanes (Milesi and ICA) for painted finishes and Rubio Monocoat for most stained work, ensuring exceptional clarity, durability, and depth.

Can Wood & Co. match existing millwork profiles, cabinetry, or finishes?

Yes. We regularly fabricate new millwork and cabinetry that integrates seamlessly with existing work. Our team carefully measures and reverse-engineers profiles, mouldings, paneling, and door styles to ensure a precise match, whether you’re expanding a kitchen, adding to an existing built-in, or restoring historical details. Finishes are matched for color, sheen, and character to blend naturally with the surrounding work.

How are your cabinets constructed and quality-controlled?

Our cabinets combine traditional joinery with modern engineering, using solid wood doors and premium hardware. Each piece is inspected throughout drafting, fabrication, finishing, and pre-delivery to ensure it meets our standards before leaving the shop. If an issue is identified on-site, we promptly collect the piece, correct it in our workshop, and return it without delay.

What hardware brands do you use?

We use only premium hardware, including Blum, Salice, Häfele, Nanz, FritsJurgens, Tectus, Sugatsune, and Wilmette, among others. These brands are selected for their beauty, functionality, and longevity.

Installation & Delivery

Do you provide installation?

Yes, with our own installers or trusted partners depending on the project's scope and location.

What site conditions are required before delivery?

Our cabinetry is furniture-grade and must be handled accordingly. While we often install before painting or floor finishing is complete, proper climate control must be in place. Once delivered, all cabinetry becomes the responsibility of the general contractor or homeowner to protect.

What if the site isn’t ready?

We confirm site readiness before delivery. If the site is not prepared, we simply reschedule. Extended storage is available at our facility for an additional monthly fee.

What protection is required after installation?

The general contractor is responsible for protecting all finished cabinetry. Most damage results from other trades working nearby, so proper protection and site care is essential. We offer on-site touch-ups and in-shop repairs as needed.

How do you handle punch lists?

We walk through the space, make necessary adjustments promptly, and ensure everything is aligned and functioning before final sign-off.
