Entry Wall Unit

Your home’s entryway is the first area you’ll see when you step in through your front door. It’s what greets and welcomes you and your guests. It’s also the last thing anyone sees on their way out. And yet, why do we often neglect styling and beautifying this space? For this project, we built a shaker-style entry wall cabinet unit with shoe storage.

Here, we created a simple and elegant entry wall unit design with mirrored white cabinetry. Mirrored doors help bounce light around the small space, making it seem brighter and more spacious. The edges were beveled to add more dimension and to match the profile of the lower panels. To pair well with the design of the doors, glass knobs were used. The black escutcheon where the knobs rest offer a pop of contrast to the clean white lacquer finish of the closet. Having the same finish as the walls and ceiling, the closet is seamlessly integrated into the space. A stark contrast to the white finish is the dark Wenge floor, offering more visual depth and further enhancing the space.

The cabinet interior features both style and function. Multiple shelves line the whole piece, spaced evenly, to hold the owners’ many shoes. These can accommodate footwear of various sizes from low slip-ons to high-top boots. The interior is finished in a natural maple, providing a neutral backdrop for the shoes. The contrast makes it easy to find the shoes you’re looking for while also providing a soft contrast with the pure white exterior.

This is just one of the many ways to style the entryway. Adding cabinets or a whole entry wall unit is one of the many ways to add functionality, and elevate the space. It adds a layer of function in the form of storage. You can add a shoe closet, a coat hanger, and the like. If you live in a smaller home or an apartment, adding cabinetry at your entryway can give you additional space to store seasonal items or large appliances. It helps keep things neat and organized, keeping the area free of any eyesores.

It may be such a small and unassuming area, but an exceptional and charming entryway can make a world of difference. They say that first impressions last, and the same holds true for your home. The entryway is the first and last thing you and your guests will see, so make sure it reflects your personal style and leaves a lasting impact.
